As your kids got older, their fears changed; your middle-schooler might have gone through a phase where he or she was afraid that you would be hurt in an accident or that someone would break into the house. Once a child reaches their teens, most childhood fears recede. If a fear is impacting his or her life, however, a phobia might be to blame. A fear of speaking in public, when excessive and intense, can be a type of social phobia. Some teens also have social anxiety , which is a more generalized fear of interaction with other people.
Fear of death may curb youthful texting and driving
Most teens feel a little anxious about life after high school. For teens who have struggled in school or socially, those feelings can be more intense. Frequent experiences with setbacks and challenges in the past can create greater fears about the future.
Suicide is when a teen causes his or her own death on purpose. Before attempting to take his or her own life, a teen may have thoughts of wanting to die. This is called suicidal ideation. He or she may also have suicidal behavior.
